We believe Readington needs an independent government watchdog that monitors taxes and spending and provides taxpayers and citizens with the facts.
As taxpayers, we have a right to expect our elected and appointed
officials to spend our tax dollars wisely. We have the right
to expect responsive, responsible government.
We believe that being honest and direct isn’t just good policy – it’s an obligation that our Township Committee has to the taxpayers of Readington.
Right now our efforts are focused on the Township’s eminent domain
action against Solberg because it poses an immediate threat to the
future of Readington.
Not only is it fundamentally wrong to seize private property, it’s
is unfair to ask the taxpayers of Readington to pay millions more in
higher taxes. The cost of seizing
The Township Committee is seeking to justify the use of taxpayer
funds for the acquisition of Solberg. We believe the ordinance
was not adopted for a legitimate governmental purpose but rather to
limit or prevent further development of the Solberg airport.
The Committee should be limited in the amount authorized to acquire
the property because voters were mislead by ballot language into
believing that the Township would not spend more than $22,000,000.
If the eminent domain process continues, the actual cost to acquire
the property will likely exceed what voters authorized the Township
to spend.
